Born in Nova Scotia, Virginia has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University (English Literature) and a Master’s degree from Dalhousie University (Library Service). She has lived in Yarmouth since 1979.
Virginia worked at the Western Counties Regional Library for 34 years, retiring as deputy regional director in 2004.
In the ten years since her retirement, she has enjoyed devoting more time to the arts. In particular, being involved with Th’YARC Print Shop, working with other members there, and learning printmaking techniques from Cecil Day has given a great deal of satisfaction.
She is especially interested in exploring how drawing can be developed and enhanced through etching techniques and the addition of colour. Pattern, texture and repetition in landscape are often explored in her prints.
Her work has been shown in group shows sponsored by Visual Arts Nova Scotia, the Printmakers Association of Nova Scotia, the Sign of the Whale and the Yarmouth Art Society.
